Yanxu Chen (Sue)

  The ocean holds many mysteries that we have yet to uncover. So I came to understand its beauty from the perspective of physics. As a junior expert in any field, you know, our plans and works can vary in such a wide range. My previous research goes from the gargantuan Arctic to small scale estuarine and coastal areas of the South China Sea. Now I am more addicted to extensive dynamics. Specifically, I try to understand the (sub)mesoscale characteristics of the upper ocean and further the dynamical impacts on general ocean circulation, biogeochemistry, big-picture climate change, etc. Theory, modeling and observations are used to characterize the mechanisms, with one possible purpose of improving oceanic component in climate models.
